Dear Participant,

Many recreation activities occurring in parks, forests and other outdoor facilities have long histories and understood resource implications, while others are relatively new but rapidly emerging. The rapid growth of emerging recreation presents new challenges for park and resource managers. This survey aims to gather knowledge about emerging recreational activities occurring in North Carolina and the associated resource impacts and managerial implications. For the purposes of this survey, emerging recreation activities are new pursuits enabled by technologies or social media or new derivatives of traditional activities occurring within the past three to five years.

We are seeking information that will contribute to this understanding from individuals associated with or directly responsible for resource and visitor decisions in North Carolina. Your participation is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time without
consequence. All information will be treated as confidential. The results of this research may be published in an academic journal or as part of research presentations to the public. Consent is assumed upon completion of the survey.

If you have any questions about the survey, please email the North Carolina State University Recreation Ecology Lab at rec_ecol@ncsu.edu, or contact Dr. Yu-Fai Leung directly at 919-513-3489 or leung@ncsu.edu. If you feel you have not been treated according to the descirptions in this letter, or your rights as a participant in research have been violated during the course of this project, you may contact Deb Paxton, Regulatory Compliance Administrator, Box 7514, NCSU Campus (919-515-4514).
